Miss Simmons Reading Class
Welcome! I am Miss Simmons and I will have the delight of working with you and your child this 2008-2009 school year. I’d like to first tell you a little about myself. I am from Cantonment, FL. I graduated from J.M. Tate High School. I attended college locally at Pensacola Jr. College and The University of West Florida. I have been working for Escambia County School District for the past nine years. I taught for Brentwood Elementary Magnet School of Communication and Technology for five years, and then I transferred to Wedgewood Middle School, where I taught for three years. After Wedgewood was closed down due to school consolidations, I transferred to Woodham Middle School and taught there for a year. This is my first year teaching for West Florida High School of Advance Technology, but I have been affiliated with the school for the past four years through coaching. I have been the girls’ assistant basketball coach for the past four years and the girls’ assistant track coach for the past two years. I am looking forward to an awesome first year followed by many more as a part of the West Tech Family!
During the time your child spends in my classroom I will work to help your child build on his/her comprehension skills, which will in turn help him/her to pass the FCAT! I am aware that the better your child can understand the material he/she reads the more he/she will be able to successfully accomplish in other academic areas.
The majority of the work will take place in class with an exception to book reports or projects I may assign from time to time. Homework will generally consist of work the students did not have “time” to complete during class. Please encourage your child to use class time wisely and to complete assignments and get them turned in on time. Please have your child to check the calendar for assignments when he/she will be absent from class. Let’s work together to make this a wonderful year for us all! If at any time you have a question about something concerning your child’s grades or progress in class, please do not hesitate to send me an email or contact the school to set up a conference so that we can discuss or clear up any issues at hand.
