Be respectful of people and property.
- Respect yourself and others (teachers, substitutes, visitors, classmates, etc.).Follow directions the first time they are given. Actively listen to the person who has the floor.
- Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking.
- Remain seated while others are speaking.
- Keep your hands to yourself at all times.
- Use appropriate language at all times.
- Follow ALL lab safety guidelines - if you break or damage any piece of equipment in the biology classroom (even if by accident), you are required to pay for its replacement.
Come to class prepared and ready to learn.
- Bring all materials to class everyday (textbook, 3-ring binder, writing utensils, etc.).
- Participate in all class discussions and activities.
- All cell phones should be off and not visible. Vibrating phones are on! Light on phone, you’re gone.
- All other electronics are not allowed at school at any time.
- Take care of all personal grooming (combing hair, putting on make-up, etc.) before class.
- Take care of bathroom breaks and drinks during passing time. If you need to use the restroom during class, please ask at an appropriate time (during work-time, etc. and not in the middle of notes or class discussion).
- Book Bags and purses need to be placed on the floor at all times.
Attend class
- Come to class on time everyday – you must be here to learn.
- Be in your seat when the bell rings .
- Remain in your seat until you are dismissed (no lining up at the door).
- If you are absent, see “make-up” section below.
- If you anticipate an absence, it is your responsibility to inform me beforehand.
Take responsibility for your work.
1. Complete your own work (cheating and plagiarism will result in a zero).
2. Late work is automatically given a 10% deduction. You have one day to turn in late work!
3. Keep all science assignments, notes, handouts, etc. in your 3-ring binder.
A. Make-Up:
1. Assignments and Participation:
a. If you miss daily work due to an excused absence, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. You will have the same number of excused days you were absent to turn in the work (after that, there is a 10% reduction).
b. In order to make-up participation points missed due to an excused absence, you must see me before or after school, so we can go over what you missed during class.
2. Tests and Labs:
a. If you miss a test or a lab due to an excused absence, you must make it up within one week of your return. Accommodations will be made for extended absences.
B. Tips to help you succeed in this class:
1. You are responsible for your own learning. I do not allow extra credit projects to boost your grade.
2. Rewrite your notes for homework! Study your Vocabulary!. Then write your thoughts, questions, and a summary of the day’s activity. DO NOT wait until the night before a test to start studying.
3. Think about how each topic relates to you and the real world.
4. Vocabulary is a large part of science. It is important that you are familiar with the vocabulary and that you keep up with new words by keeping your individualized glossary up to date. Keep note cards with vocabulary words and definitions on them. Make picture cards!
5. Read all lab instructions carefully. Know why you are doing each lab and what the results represent.
